Elliot is an award-winning Violist and a published Composer, currently in a contract with OLC Barcelona Music, who is currently studying Viola at the RCM’s Junior Department with Sarah-Jane Bradley.
"I am an 18 year old Violist and composer, living in Brighton, UK, looking to share my music with the world.
I aim to prove through my playing that the vastly under-appreciated and neglected Viola is actually an instrument that has its own deep, profound character. The beautiful sounds it can make are not well-known, want to share these sounds with the world. My life's ambition, and indeed my dream, is to one day write the gaps into the Viola repertoire, and compose hundreds of new pieces for the instrument." -Elliot Corner
At Christ’s Hospital School, he studied Viola with Emily Marsden, changing over permanently to the Viola from Violin. Elliot subsequently gained an ABRSM Gold Award for his ABRSM Viola Grade 8 Distinction (148/150) and joining the Royal College of Music's Junior Department within four months of starting the Viola. Upon leaving the RCM JD in July 2013, Elliot will be awarded the RCM JD Freda Dinn and Ida Mabett String Prize.
Elliot has also attained ABRSM Grade 8 Violin, gaining a Distinction at 138 of 150 marks. (July 2009, aged 14) and Grade 8 ABRSM Theory, gaining a Merit at 82/100.
Since taking up the Viola, Elliot has performed extensively around the country as a soloist, composer and orchestral musician. He has made appearances as an orchestral Violist with the Sussex Symphony Orchestra, the Royal College of Music Symphony Orchestra, the Amati Orchestra and the Duet Philharmonic, playing mostly as a Co-Principal orchestral player. In the near future, he is set to make an appearance with the Brighton Orpheus Choir as a featured Soloist and Composer, and as a soloist with the Christ's Hospital Ripieno Orchestra, (playing the Bruch Romanze for Viola and Orchestra)
Elliot has been offered a Foundation Scholarship and a place at the Royal College of Music to undertake an undergraduate BMus (Hons) in Viola and Composition from September 2013, which he intends to accept, studying with Simon Rowland-Jones.
Elliot was born in Brighton, UK and continues to be Brighton based. As proof of this, he can be found busking regularly in the Pavilion Gardens, surrounded by confused tourists wondering why this eccentric and tall young musician is playing Bach.
Elliot discovered his innate musicality aged 4 when his Reception (Kindergarten/Nursery) teacher discovered that he had perfect pitch after noticing him singing perfectly in tune during a class singing session. After a brief foray into Woodwind, he quickly discovered that the recorder was not the instrument for him, and he moved onto the Violin.
Elliot is an avid reader, getting through up to three or four books a day at times. He has attended Christ's Hospital school in Horsham since the age of 11, boarding full time, where he met his partner Emma in 2011. He took 12 GCSE's, achieving 8 A*'s and 4 A's, and achieved at AS the grades ABC in Music, Chemistry and Philosophy respectively. He is now studying for his A2 Music and Philosophy, also studying Music on Saturdays at the Royal College of Music's Junior Department.
